Who’s rising in the LA radio ratings, and who’s gone missing

What’s happening with KIIS-FM (102.7)? Since December, the hit music station has been on an upward trajectory in the Nielsen ratings; the March results released in late April have the station at second place overall with a 5.0 share of the audience. That’s a full 2 points higher than it earned in December. If memory serves right, this is the highest finish KIIS has had in years. Is pop music on the radio making a comeback? Perhaps. But it was oldies that won the day, with KRTH (101.1 FM) taking the top spot overall, beating KIIS by almost a full point at 5.8. Fresh sweet corn is already great on its own, but add a hot grill and a few creamy and tangy ingredients on top, and you’ve...

Orange County vet who volunteered in Ukraine, survived rocket attack: ‘I would do it again’

In the dark, there was a staccato beat of sound — a thundering, unplaceable boom. Then there was the pain, sudden and unyielding. Giovanni Roman was hit. It was just before midnight on a frigid February evening in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine when the 29-year-old Marine veteran from Garden Grove was struck by an enemy Russian rocket while inside a Humvee on the frontlines. Blood soaked through his vest. Pain electrified him. The impact shattered part of Roman’s skull, claimed his right eye, and jettisoned shrapnel into his arm and hand. But somehow, Roman stayed awake. He remembers it all. “I’ve always believed as a man you should be willing to die for something,” Roman said. “I have...

This week’s meal plan is heavy on all of our favorite taco and Mexican-inspired recipes.  Cinco de Mayo is next week and we want to make sure you have plenty of meal options! Notes from this week’s meal plan: Homemade Muesli You can store this muesli in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. A great gluten free recipe option Quick and Easy Chicken Tacos with Pineapple Salsa You could grill the chicken, if grilling the chicken, I would recommend leaving the chicken breasts whole and not slicing the chicken into small pieces. Vegetarian Sheet Pan Dinner (Mexican Kale Salad) This recipe makes two big salad bowls, or four small ones if you’re eating something else on the side. Whole...
