Mexican restaurant replacing Boebert’s former Shooters Grill in Rifle, acquires liquor license

RIFLE — Cerveza, margaritas and enchiladas rancheras are coming to a downtown Rifle spot that formerly dished out burgers and fries by pistol-packing servers. Tapatios of New Castle is currently in the process of opening a new location inside the vacant downtown Rifle storefront that used to house Shooters Grill. The former Shooters was owned by Silt Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. Rifle City Council on Feb. 15 unanimously approved a hotel and liquor license for Tapatios. VICKSBURG Chapter Sixteen

I think the daguerreotype of John Clifford Pemberton (above) has influenced what historians think of the Vicksburg commander . To me, frankly, he looks a bit seedy. But in the flesh this 5 foot ten inch curly brown headed self made aristocrat was born with a silver stick up his butt and a marble chip on his shoulder. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn Eyes the Seemingly Impossible: A Bipartisan Deal on Immigration

BY MATTHEW CHOI/Texas Tribune EL PASO — A long trail of SUVs snaked out of El Paso carrying a group of U.S. senators into southern New Mexico on a recent, chilly night. Like a funeral procession, the oversized cars glided through traffic with hazard lights on, turning onto a paved road to survey portions of the Mexican border. In one of the cars was Sen. John Cornyn, who helped organize the delegation’s trip to his home state. The Texas Republican, who has railed about the border crisis from Washington, D.C., for months, wanted his peers to see the situation with their own eyes and better understand Border Patrol’s work and its challenges. They drove into the pitch black night until...

PICK: Menuhin Competition winner from 2021 returns to join Richmond Symphony this weekend, Feb. 25-26

If you will recall, in 2020 the city was just getting ready to host the best young violinists in the world for the prestigious Menuhin Competition. Often described as “the Olympics of the violin,” the internationally watched event was canceled due to the outbreak of the pandemic. Then in 2021, the event was converted into an online competition with co-hosts VPM (which owns Style Weekly), the University of Richmond, the city of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. That event garnered over 9 million viewers globally, according to a press release. Now the winner of that online competition is coming to Richmond in person. Spanish prodigy María Dueñas was only 18 when she won the senior level first prize of the...
