"Storm Warning"

"Storm Warning" by Jim Kunstler"For all his apparent clownishness and crudity, Mr. Trump’s counter-resistance may be all that stands, for the moment, between the DNC-sponsored Jacobin jihad, and what remains of a coherent consensus of genuine American values. History is a prankster, of course, and the joke is that Mr. Trump expresses that defense of coherence so incoherently, as in Tulsa the other night. Alas, the joke is on us, but among the many lost lessons of public education in our time is the comprehension that life is tragic. Things work mysteriously, and they don’t always work out.Mischief is everywhere and America is overwhelmed by that mischief, and the next two weeks are liable to be an awful test to...

Encountering Hervé Guibert’s Anti-Utopian Men

The myth of Hervé Guibert is that of the cruelly beautiful man who betrayed his friends, the writer of sex and death who would die of a sexually-transmitted disease. This myth owes its origins to a single book, To the Friend Who Did Not Save My Life. The volume was an autofiction: drawing from life while not being bound purely to the facts. But the truth it told was undeniable. ADHD Or Convergence Insufficiency: Could Your Child’s Eyes Be Hiding Something?

Have you ever heard of convergence insufficiency? Did you even know that quite often, children who have convergence insufficiency are misdiagnosed with ADD, and when treated with appropriate vision therapy, become almost completely different children? My then 8-year-old son was referred to a developmental optometrist last year. His new occupational therapist suggested Dr. Bryce Appelbaum of Appelbaum Vision in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Appelbaum is board certified in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. My son was in Occupational therapy for dyspraxia and dysgraphia, but his OT thought his vision had something to do with his problems and since I trusted her, I figured I’d check him out. If honest, I thought I might be...
