Dine 909: Fast food mask sales support charity

Masks are once again required in public, so why not wear something a little fun while helping protect yourself and others from the spread of coronavirus?

Jack in the Box and Dunkin’ are offering masks for sale, with proceeds benefiting charity.

Select Jack in the Box locations are selling masks for $5, with proceeds — at least here in the Inland Empire — benefiting Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino.

The logo-covered masks are available in black and rose.

Dunkin’s masks are available at shopdunkin.com for $10.

At the time of this writing, three styles are currently available, as a fourth style has sold out.

Proceeds — $3 from each mask sale — benefit the chain’s Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, which supports children in underserved communities.

The masks are available through Aug. 31, or while supplies last.

Hitting pause

Peruvian fusion restaurant Red Panka has temporarily closed.

A sign posted at the door of the Redlands restaurant reads: “We are temporarily closing our store due to technical difficulties, also we are taking this time to do renovations to Red Panka. Thank you for being a loyal customer to us, we will be back soon.”

A message on Yelp indicates that the restaurant will reopen July 31.

Red Panka is at 1971 W. Redlands Blvd., Suite B.

Also temporarily closed is Inland Empire Brewing Company in Riverside.

The brewery announced its temporary closure via its Instagram account.

While the taproom is closed, the brewery’s beers — as well as those from other local breweries — will be available for pickup or delivery via www.socal.beer.

The Instagram post also notes that the brewery will use the closure time to do some remodeling.

Inland Empire Brewing Company is at 1710 Palmyrita Ave., Suite 1.1

Another truck

Tocayo Birreria continues to expand here in the Inland Empire, recently adding its fourth truck.

The new truck is parked at 21866 Alessandro Blvd., Moreno Valley.

Other trucks can be found at Jurupa Road and Bain Street, Jurupa Valley; 6320 Mission Blvd., Riverside; and 18898 Valley Blvd., Bloomington.

Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.

Virtual restaurant

Shhhh! A secret kitchen has opened here in the Inland Empire.

Verve Taco — with the tagline “Scratch Mexican kitchen” — is now open in Redlands.

But you can’t eat there.

The restaurant, which offers a variety of Mexican dishes, is only available for pickup and local delivery.

Visit vervetaco.com or call 909-793-7821 to place an order.

The kitchen operates out of the former LemonShark Poke, 360 Orange St., which is currently being transformed into Makai by LemonShark. The remodeled restaurant had planned to open earlier this year, before the coronavirus shutdown.

Verve Taco is likely to remain as a virtual restaurant after Makai opens.

“Impossible” breakfast

Burger King, which launched its Impossible Whopper a little over a year ago, has expanded its meatless options to breakfast.

The chain recently launched its Impossible Croissan’wich and Impossible biscuit.

The breakfast entrées consist of a meat-free sausage patty, with American cheese and egg, on either a croissant or biscuit.

Prices are around $5 for an a la carte sandwich, or $6.80 for a combo.

Down and out

Dia de los Puercos is down to a single location, again.

The chain, which has operated in West Covina, Claremont, Pomona, and Riverside, recently announced the closure of its Pomona location.

That leaves just the sole location at the Riverside Food Lab, 3605 Market St.
