Upgrade the classic turkey stuffing with an apple cranberry stuffing with Hawaiian bread!
Every year we like to add different menu options to pair with the traditional turkey. But still, the classic turkey stuffing with cornbread remains. However, this Thanksgiving we are changing things up and we are using Hawaiian bread, apples, and fresh cranberries.
The result is a sweet and savory apple cranberry stuffing that goes nicely with the gravy and the turkey. This sweet bread stuffing has Vidalia onion, celery, Envy apples, seasonal fresh cranberries, toasted Hawaiian bread, butter, rosemary, and poultry spices.
How to make the Apple Cranberry Stuffing with Hawaiian Bread?
This stuffing is super easy to cook. I found at the Hawaiian bread crumbs at the store, and while shopping I added the apples, cranberries, butter, onion, chicken broth, and celery. All the ingredients needed for cooking this yummy apple cranberry stuffing.
The most difficult part of this dish is finely chopping the onion and the celery. With the celery, you can use a potato peeler to remove the fibers. Core the apples and cut in cubes. Wash the cranberries with running water and set aside.
Now all is ready to cook the apple cranberry stuffing. I like to use a cast iron braiser with a lid but you can use a five-quart aluminum pan. This recipe has butter you can replace with cooking oil but with butter will have better flavor.
The apples I chose for the apple cranberry stuffing are sweet and tart and do not brown, but if you prefer a granny smith you can replace using those.
My family has a long tradition of cooking bread stuffing for the holidays.
Living in a Mexican border town and the proximity with the U.S. influenced what my family cooked and enjoyed during the holidays. We didnt celebrate Thanksgiving, as it was not part of our traditions.
But we did celebrate Christmas and our menu always included a delicious turkey stuffing with homemade cornbread. My family had an apple orchard so apple cranberry sauce was a common side dish in our table.
Living in Florida for the last twenty years I have embraced many of the Southern traditions which include the Thanksgiving celebration and preparing classic dishes, such as candied yams, American style turkey and gravy, the apple cranberry stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.
Since we love so much the holiday flavors for Christmas aside from cooking Cuban style pork, I cook another turkey and all the Southern favorites plus biscuits, and this Hawaiian bread stuffing.
