The modern cottage shared teen girl bedroom at the Carney house is finished and it’s aaaaadorable!!! Remember our teenage girl bedroom design mood board try-on?
As a refresher, here is what the space looked like just a few days ago.
We went sage green crazy, shiplap wall planked the whole room for $20, sprinkled in some vintage art and thrift finds, and packed it full of modern furniture from Walmart with a ton of storage to check all of the boxes for style and function.
Teen Girl Bedroom Before and After
It ended up being the sweetest little bedroom for our two teen neighbors down the street who deserved a haven to reflect their unique personalities.
I wanted this room to feel calming and slightly grown up but still fresh and youthful, balancing the line between modern and traditional, so blending styles of modern and boho with elements of Japandi and cottage worked perfectly.
Teenage Wall Art
One of my favorite finds lately has been these wall frames that come already matted and with paper templates so that you can tape them directly to the wall for rearranging and easily “trying on” gallery wall layouts.
I found this artist Nicola Pucci who shipped the equestrian and track art prints to me. The two girls ride horses and run track/cross country, so they were perfect!
I hung up this cute wall hanging basket with faux flowers and wide brim hat on a hook to add to the vintage vibe.
Modern Cottage Textiles
These coverlet quilt sets are my favorites for a timeless bedding staple, and these chambray striped sheets from the Gap Home line at Walmart work perfectly for a subtle pattern play.
This area rug we incorporated has just enough floral pattern to feel feminine with cream, blue, gray, and green undertones and the right amount of plush to add softness underfoot in a bedroom.
Teen Bedroom Furniture
We knew we needed low profile beds to help the room feel larger but wouldn’t take up too much space so that they still had enough room underneath to use these under bed drawers to squeeze in as much storage as possible.
These simple black spindle beds fit the bill, and they were less than $80!
To add as much function as possible into this corner of the bedroom, we added this $79 leaning desk that could also serve as a makeup vanity and shelving for school books.
We originally planned to use a different nightstand, but the measurements were too small for the space. Since we couldn’t use the chest in Regan’s bedroom, it worked out perfectly here instead.
This sherpa chair is perfect for lounging or doing homework, and it’s so comfortable!
To make sure they had plenty of clothing storage, we added this 5-drawer wood dresser for $240. It’s so sturdy and the drawers glide very smoothly, which is hard to find in budget-friendly dressers.
I did spray paint the hardware with my favorite gold spray paint to add some warmth.
Decorative Accents
For the rest of the space, I mostly added vintage/thrifted finds or the girls’ books. This rattan lamp (with a thrifted shade) gave the space an extra boho touch. And this stone diffuser can double as a nightlight for them if they need it.
Their number one request was lots of plants, so I added this faux plant and this faux plant for good measure.
I snuck in one more piece of horse art with this little guy too.
And because a girl always needs a mirror somewhere in her room, this over door brass mirror worked well without sacrificing wall space.
So now it’s done!
I’m so incredibly happy with how it turned out, but most importantly our sweet neighbor girls who we love to pieces are absolutely thrilled about it, and that fills me with joy more than anything.
We found so many Walmart Home pieces that helped us keep this makeover within a very reasonable budget, and it ended up looking like a collected space that has a charming story to tell.
