You can’t teach old dogs new tricks (Final part)

This is a continuation of extracts from a post by Pamela Snow and my comments. This blunderbuss approach no doubt explains why university lecturers grapple with the frustration of trying to teach first-year students who do not know the basics of how to construct a sentence, in spite of the fact that they have studied English for 13 years and have passed Year 12. My comment: I have said this to Pamela and it appears to fall on deaf ears. Many of the kids in university started learning to read after figuring out how to read when they were in grade 6 or later. By this time, they have missed out on many things that they would have learned had...

I don’t think the creator of this pro-policing political cartoon actually read "Frankenstein"

Michael Ramirez is a Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist who works for the Las Vegas Review Journal. And I am sure he has definitely read Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein (or, the Modern Prometheus), as evidenced by his latest cartoon, titled "LIBERALS CITIES ABOLISH AND CUT FUNDING FOR POLICE DEPARTMENTS." Should Riverside County have a police review commission?

Riverside County’s Democratic Party is calling for a police review commission “with real community oversight” as it criticized Sheriff Chad Bianco’s plan to form a community review panel following recent protests against police brutality and racial injustice. The party proposed the commission in a June 11 statement responding to the Board of Supervisors’ passage of a resolution condemning George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis, Minnesota, police. The death of Floyd, an unarmed Black man, sparked nationwide protests and fueled calls to end systemic racism and reform policing. To the dismay of Black Lives Matter activists, the board failed to vote on a proposal from Supervisor V. Manuel Perez to review Riverside County Sheriff’s Department procedures and bolster community...
