When Reagan Gonzalez began applying to law schools, she didn’t imagine that she would have to research the laws of the states to which she was thinking about moving. But this year’s wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and proposals—the American Civil Liberties Union is currently tracking 388 bills—wound up shaping her decision in ways that she didn’t anticipate. Gonzalez, who is queer and who typically wears traditionally masculine clothing, had been excited to apply to Vanderbilt University, in Tennessee, and the University of Miami, in Florida. But now, after each state passed laws restricting LGBTQ+ rights, Gonzalez plans to cross them off her list. “I didn’t think that things would get so scary so quickly,” she said. “You don’t feel safe...
Over the weekend, the recently released indie Souls-like, Bleak Faith: Forsaken, was accused of having stolen a set of attack animations from Elden Ring. Late Monday, a patch was released, replacing the animations—it was accompanied by a statement explaining that the game’s developers had purchased a set of animation assets from Epic’s Unreal Marketplace, which included an animation that, by all accounts, seems to have been plagiarized from Elden Ring. The statement includes what the developers say is a reply from Epic, wherein the company says it's not in a position to verify copyrights on assets sold through its store, and makes no guarantees. (Although, the offending assets have been delisted). "Certainly this has been a huge lesson for us...
When planning a family road trip we pulled out a map and took a look at all the possible places to go within four hours drive from our family in New Jersey, and somehow Gettysburg, PA captured the interest of my nine-year-old. Once I started looking into it though, I was surprised by all the things to do in Gettysburg, even for kids! After doing research and getting some help from Destination Gettysburg, we were able to put together a jam-packed itinerary...
In perhaps the biggest news that will come out of Rancho Cucamonga in 2023, if not the rest of this decade, the city is now home to the Inland Empire’s first Shake Shack. I am, generally speaking, not a fan of chain restaurants. But exceptions must be made, and Shake Shack is atop my list. After hearing about the New York City-based chain by reputation, I first encountered a Shake Shack while on vacation in Washington, D.C., in 2014, gave it a try and was not disappointed. Freshly ground burgers, made to order on potato buns, with noticeably fresh lettuce and tomatoes; crinkle-cut fries; and frozen custard. Frozen custard? It’s a Midwestern thing, an homage by Shake Shack founder Danny...
