I’m catching up with my final LILAC conference session post - my laptop battery gave out at the start of the session (my one LILAC grouse - not enough power points (as opposed to powerpoints) in the lecture rooms!) Therefore I had to resort to taking manual notes and photos of slides. Karen Kaufmann was presenting on Factors that Impact the Relevance of Information Literacy to College Students: The Kaleidoscope Effect.Kaufmann summarised findings from her doctoral work: Kaufmann, Karen F. by Rupen R. Fofaria, EducationNC The pandemic has intruded on two school years, led to inconsistent student attendance, and thrown asterisks beside test scores. And, asterisks or not, aggregated scores seem to confirm fears that COVID-19 and its challenges are taking a toll on student outcomes. Just last week, the State Board of Education listened to distressing reading scores that show a majority of students in third through eighth grades are not reading at proficiency. This is the state of things at the dawn of a school year in which hundreds of students already are in quarantine. But perhaps there’s room for some optimism. A shifting culture in reading instruction and sharp increases in summer school attendance across the state...
Raise your hand if your kiddo loves pretending that they have a mermaid tail for legs, their favorite Disney princess is Ariel, or they have (or are asking for) a pet fish named Flounder. Well, we have the perfect activity for your little water bug: mermaid coloring pages. When toddlers get hooked on a movie or TV show, it can be challenging to find activities that capture their attention just as much or get them just as excited—especially ideas that don’t involve screen time. On a recent family trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, we learned that Dare County, NC, has the largest concentration of black bears in the Southeast. There are over 20,000 of them in our state (North Carolina). The bear warning signs near the Wright Brothers Memorial kept us well aware of this fact! We have studied a great deal about animals during our homeschooling years, would The Creature Crew boxes teach us something new? (spoiler alert: YES!) Features of The Creature Crew Subscription...
After a long wait of three years, the trailer for "Stranger Things" season 4 has dropped, leaving fans scurrying for answers, cause hoo boy, a LOT is happening within those three minutes. Series creators the Duffer brothers previously revealed that the upcoming season will be divided into two parts, and considering the range and scope of the events that are about to unfold, this makes absolute sense. Moving away from the "E.T." meets "A Nightmare on Elm Street" vibes of the first three seasons, season 4 does imbue the "horror movie" vibe promised by the creators, delivering monsters old and new, ominous prophecies, and a mystery that takes over the town of Hawkins and its inhabitants, with the notorious Creel house...
