WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT
We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen is a classic book and a favorite story in Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms! Because it can be chanted with students keeping the beat, it makes it even more fun to join the characters in the story on their quest to find a bear!
We're Going on a Bear Hunt is a great book to teach story sequence. Students love following the characters as they face different challenges on their hunt for a bear!
The book is also great for experiencing words that make sounds-
when the characters wade through the mud they squelch squerch, when they cross a river they splash splosh, and when they walk through the long wavy grass they swishy swashy.
The story is also great for students to act out as it's being read! They can wave their arms from side to side as they walk through the long, wavy grass. They can tiptoe through the cave. They can shiver through the swirling, whirling snowstorm.
I have created a literacy companion unit to go with the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. It's geared towards students in Kindergarten and First Grade. It includes an interactive anchor chart for sequencing the story. It also includes a craftivity that makes a fun bulletin board display to showcase student learning.
