Do you remember 2020? All the libraries were closed, and the homeschool mom’s most beloved resource was taken from her. I remember getting the email that our library would be closing at 5 PM that evening and was unsure when they would reopen. So I loaded my kids in the car, and we went to the library. We left with bags of books. And even that didn’t carry us through quarantine. Oh, how I wish I knew of LightSail – a homeschool online reading program during those months of not having access to books.

Homeschool Reading Curriculum
In my search to make sure I was never in the predicament of not having good books at my fingertips, I found LightSail. And it is so much more than just a library of resources — it is a tool to help your child excel in four main areas:

The LightSail for Homeschoolers language arts platform provides parents with a comprehensive and engaging online reading and writing program for children in grades pre-K through 12. A foundation in the science of reading and writing combined with the experience of a team of home educators creates a family-friendly learning experience advancing skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and fluency. The LightSail literacy platform that has enhanced learning for over 5 million school students is now tailored especially to the educational goals of homeschoolers.
Strategies to Improve Reading
LightSail begins with a Power Challenge that assesses your child’s reading level. Then after their exile score is calculated, LightSail recommends books for their current reading level.
When reading a book, there are many functions to help improve your child’s reading. For example, if they highlight a word, they can hear the word, read the definition, and more.
Another great function tool of LightSail is selecting if you want faith-based material offered, and if you do, you are then able to include what faiths. Also, parents can approve books before a child reads them. The child clicks on the request approval, and then the parent can either approve or decline that book.
Online Writing Program
Writing activities complement reading assignments, and LightSail’s chat feature allows parents and children to interact and engage through the platform. Furthermore, LightSail parents have real-time access to meaningful data about their children’s reading and writing trends, comprehension, and growth that allows them to guide, create, and enhance the learning experience.
Another fun feature of LightSail is the Livestream videos, Lerner Sports, and TedTalks that are especially for kids.
